The Town and Village of Camillus invite all residents and community stakeholders to attend a Community Open House and Steering Committee Public Hearing for the Joint Comprehensive Plan. The event will take place at the Camillus Town Hall Gym (4600 Genesee St, Syracuse, NY 13219) on Thursday, April 9th. The Community Open House will take place from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM and the Steering Committee Public Hearing will begin at 6:30 PM. Please visit the Town and Village websites to review the draft Joint Comprehensive Plan. Hard copies are also on display at Town Hall (4600 West Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY 13219) and Village Hall (37 Main St Camillus, NY 13031).

A comprehensive plan is one of a community’s most important documents. It explores the community’s existing conditions; establishes a vision, goals, objectives, and action items to be pursued over the near and long-term; maps and describes desired future land use types; and provides a strategy for implementation. Overall, the comprehensive plan serves as a guide for decision-makers in both the public and private realm by identifying the community’s desired future state and the types of projects and programs that the community would likely support.

Changing community conditions have driven the need to update the Village’s 2008 Plan and the Town’s 2017 Plan. The Town and Village decided to develop one Joint Comprehensive Plan together to support the identification of shared goals and mutually beneficial future development scenarios, while still offering recommendations that are sensitive to the distinct governance and characteristics of the Village and Town. A community workshop and community survey were facilitated in 2025 to inform the development of the updated Plan, which is now ready for public review and comment.

The Community House will begin with a brief presentation at 5:00 pm providing an overview of the Joint Comprehensive Plan. Then, the event will break out into a poster gallery through which attendees can learn about the project and provide feedback at their own leisure. The Barton & Loguidice consultant team and members of the Steering Committee will be available to answer your questions and discuss your comments. The Joint Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee Public Hearing (starting at 6:30 PM) will be held in accordance with NYS Law. After hearing public testimony, the Steering Committee will decide whether or not to pass a resolution to refer the draft Joint Comprehensive Plan to the Town Board and Village Board for consideration for adoption.

All residents, business and property owners, community leaders, and individuals with an interest in the future of the Town and Village of Camillus are welcome to participate in the Community Open House and Steering Committee Public Hearing. Your input is essential to directing the Joint Comprehensive Plan!
